Is your battery getting close to full when powered by a solar panel? Sometimes solar charge controller will put out high voltage spikes to keep the battery topped off.Non-contact voltage measurement device could assist you with that procedure. Do you have wiring problems? All kinds of wiring in between your breaker panel and transfer switch or outlets could be damaged and you should look for that if you can.If something is wrong with it, replacing it is generally cheaper than replacing a good sine wave inverter. Is there a problem with your transfer switch? Check if your transfer switch is actually powering your outlets. Are any of the inverter fuses blown? There are usually one or two fuses on the inverter itself that protect the device in event of faulty wiring.Do you have a flipped breaker? Now, check your circuit breaker panel that is powered by your inverter to see if you have any flipped breakers.Do you have a general power problem? Are your DC devices working properly on the battery or solar grid? If yes, go to the next point. If that doesn’t work, let’s first check the following: If your battery is out of charge or is weak, replace it and reset the inverter. If your battery is OK, then you can have it checked by a professional or replace it. Usually, there is only one problem with an inverter and it is – NO power from the battery bank! If you thought of the “inverter problem” simply because your AC appliances are NOT working, then the first thing to do is to check how much charge is left in your batteries. I tried to keep this short.RV Inverter Problems ĭISCLAIMER: AS AN AMAZON ASSOCIATE I EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES. Unsure how this works, but I'm guessing the converter needs to be plugged into that specific receptacle that it was working in before because of the way campers are wired? (Which is why only half the appliances work when the converter is plugged into an external source for whatever reason?) And since it's not working in that outlet, the outlet must need to be replaced? I tried testing the outlet with a multimeter but it's an old outlet and I can't seem to fit the prongs in to get a reading.įeeling pretty frustrated and dumb. (Plugging the OLD converter into the same extension cable results in just dim lights and buzzing sounds from the converter, signifying it must in fact be faulty?) But everything else like outlets/air conditioning don't work. So to test, I ran an extension cable from my outside shore power and plugged the converter into that instead it's now getting power and am able to turn on lights and fridge. I got a new converter off amazon, same model as the old one.Īfter hooking up the new converter and plugging it into the designated outlet, nothing. It was suggested to me that it may be either a faulty power converter or a bad receptacle that the converter plugs into. I live in a 5th wheel camper that recently lost power one night. I'll try to explain this as best as I can. Also, I wasn't sure where else to post this, so I hope it's allowed here. Apologies for my lack of knowledge on this. First off, I want to preface this by saying I'm just an average person with no knowledge about how this stuff works.
